Frequently Asked Questions
What happens when I contact Fern Haven?I will reach out to you via email so we can have a friendly chat about what you’re looking for, what days and times work for you, and any questions you may have.
Feel free to reach out if you’re curious about therapy or have any questions, not just to book a session!
There is no pressure, and chatting beforehand can help ease any nerves.
What will a first session look like? Many people feel nervous about their first session, especially if they’ve never had therapy before.
The initial meeting is for us to get to know eachother, explore what you want from therapy, and what we can do together moving forward. This session carries no pressure to step outside of your comfort zone, we will move at your pace.
What if I don't know exactly what I want from therapy? It’s incredibly common for people starting therapy to not know the topic they want to bring or outcome they want. You may have a vague idea or perhaps just a feeling.
Some people start therapy because they don’t “feel” okay, without knowing why.
That is a perfectly fine place to start therapy, where we can work it out at your pace.
It’s also very common for goals and ideas to change during the course of therapy, and that’s perfectly fine too. Therapy will work around and adapt to you, there is no wrong topic to bring.
What can therapy help with?
You do not have to be in severe crisis or have a diagnosed mental disorder to come to therapy.
Therapy can help with a wide variety of life’s struggles, from feeling emotionally overwhelmed, experiencing anxiety, relationship difficulties, self-esteem issues, family conflict, estrangement, divorce and much more.
Therapy is a space to not only express difficult emotions and situations, but to explore yourself and your inner world.
Perhaps you wish to understand why patterns keep repeating in your life, or understand why you feel or behave a certain way.
Life’s struggles can pile up and get on top of us, whatever form they take. Therapy is a space to share, explore and understand these issues with someone who is compassionate to you and your experiences.
